8620 alloy steel
4320 Alloy Steel Bar Alternative

Superior Steel Alternative to

8620 Alloy Steel

Pennsylvania Steel Corporation offers an alternative to SAE 8620 alloy steel.

We produce FLEXOR® steel to be superior in its chemistry, performance, and mechanical properties to 8620 alloy steel. Taking this into account, it is suitable and can be utilized in most of the same applications as 8620 alloy steel: Automotive, Oil and Gas Drilling, Forging, Warm and Cold Forming, Performance Racing, Powdered Metal, Die Casting, Machine Building, Tool Making, Work-holding, Transfer Systems, among many others. Being a proprietary grade, Pennsylvania Steel insures that all FLEXOR® heats meet the high quality vacuum degas electric arc furnace melt process in order to insure cleanliness, grain refinement and maximum reductions.

FLEXOR®'s dependable quality and adaptability in heat treatment allows for a wide range of physical properties that are more appealing than those of typical ASTM, AISI or SAE 8620 alloy steel. Flexor® will exhibit a higher core hardness which typically means greater support for the case if carburized as well as less distortion through heat treatment and greater ultimate strength for tough applications. FLEXOR® has an added benefit over 8620 alloy steel. FLEXOR® utilizes its Chromium, Molybdenum, and Tungsten Carbides to add significant wear resistance significantly increasing its life over 8620 given similar Rockwell surface hardness.

FLEXOR® steel is available in a variety of sizes and conditions. These include, but are not limited to, decarb free alloys, hot rolled rounds, peeled steel bars, ground and polished rounds, hot rolled bars, hot rolled plates, turned forged rounds and billet.
